A wagering requirement quotes one number, and the terms then quietly reduce what counts towards it depending on what you play. This is game weighting, and it is the single largest reason a bonus that looked clearable is not.

The right-hand column is what people miss. Weighting does not make a game slightly worse for clearing, it multiplies the turnover you need by five or ten. Nobody grinds $60,000 of blackjack to release a $200 bonus.

Why the ladder looks like that
It tracks the house edge, inverted. A slot with a 4 per cent edge returns the operator four cents per dollar wagered; blackjack played well returns well under one. Weighting equalises the expected revenue per unit of wagering requirement — which is a coherent commercial rule, and also an explanation of why the games you can beat are the games that do not count.
A weighted game contributes slowly. An excluded game contributes nothing, and at some operators playing one while a bonus is active voids the bonus entirely rather than simply not counting.
What to check before you accept
- The weighting table itself — it is normally in the bonus terms, not the promotion page.
- Whether your preferred game is weighted or excluded, because the consequences differ.
- Whether live dealer is excluded, which it usually is.
- Whether progressive jackpot slots are excluded, which many are.

The practical consequence
If you are a table-game player, a casino welcome bonus is not built for you. The honest options are to decline the bonus and play with a clean balance — most cashiers allow this, and it removes the max-bet cap and the expiry window at the same time — or to accept it, clear it on slots and then switch. Working out which is worth it takes the arithmetic in rollover math.

Can I play blackjack at all while a bonus is active?
